Ben Affleck plays a Brentwood businessman running for Los Angeles mayor in the new thriller "Animals." Affleck directed and co-wrote the film, which marks his latest work in an entertainment career spanning decades. The Oscar winner has been a longtime political activist, having supported the presidential campaigns of Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and Kamala Harris. According to Variety, cast members from "Animals" have expressed interest in seeing Affleck run for office himself, with Affleck joking about their suggestions. "Maybe they hate me," Affleck said in response to the cast's encouragement, according to the outlet. The comment hints at Affleck's self-aware humor regarding the prospect of entering electoral politics. His character in "Animals" pursues the mayor's office in Los Angeles, a role that parallels Affleck's real-world engagement with political causes and candidates. The film represents Affleck's continued involvement in directing and storytelling after previous filmmaking projects. His track record of supporting Democratic candidates and causes has made him a recognizable figure in celebrity political circles. The cast's suggestion reflects broader conversations about celebrities transitioning into political roles, though Affleck has not indicated serious interest in pursuing elected office.
