Ian McKellen posted a tribute to Patrick Stewart on Instagram following Stewart's death at age 86. Stewart died after a diagnosis of Alzheimer's Disease and Lewy Body Dementia, according to his representative.
McKellen and Stewart starred together as Magneto and Professor X in the X-Men films. In his post, McKellen wrote that Stewart was "defined by being born and bred in Yorkshire" and that "You could hear it in his accented voice and in the stern honesty with which he told you what he thought and felt."
McKellen continued, "He wore his heart on his sleeve, which made him a man to rely on, to admire and in my case, love."
